A Open Letter to Miss Piggy

Dear Miss Piggy,
As much as I enjoyed your antics in childhood, I do not enjoy the thought of your flu.

swine flu 2

Your quick temper, overindulgent shopping extravaganzas and love of self should have forewarned me that you were up to no good. To think that all those years you were swooning over Kermit, you really had different intentions: to infect him!

Maybe that wasn't the case, but you are seeming quite suspicious these days {and trampy! WOW!}.

So, as much as I tossed and turned, read studies and gnashed teeth, our kids got the swine flu shot.
So there.
With or without controversy, please stay away.

Yours truly,

P. S. I still loved you in Muppets Take Manhatan!

Did you vaccinate or not?
Please do not send hate mail or comments if you have extreme opinions one way or the other. This is really just meant as a conversation. REALLY.
Hello, did you see the picture of Miss Piggy above? Okay, then. Thanks.

There was no question whether to vaccinate in our house. I'm high risk due to the fact that I am delivering on the 30th. Grant had the flu already (complete with febrile seizures and a hospital stay) and also gave me a case of it. We were glad to finally get vaccinations and hopefully our new daughter will have a healthy season as we have a couple of weeks to build up some immunity.

Stephen, Grant and I all had both flu vaccines.

Hillary,
Mason got the Swine flu over a week ago and then a couple days into it, croup set in, and then an ER visit, and then I got sick, it was a heck of a week, but we are all better now and back to work and school! Hope the little guys get better soon!

Well...our entire crew has had a regular flu shot, but not the swine version. It isn't availble here in the DFW area, unless you are pregnant, a baby, or VERY high risk with a note from your doctor to prove it! Our pediatrician can't get doses, our family doctor can't get doses, and the local health department is SO LIMITED on what they have available that they really are inforcing the pregnant/baby/sick rule.

It's strange how some places can get the vaccine distributed and other cities can't even get enough delivered to take care of the truly needful.

We were all vaccinated here! Little Lach got the shot and we got the mist (we work in healthcare), no problems were had here! Lachlan actually got his 2nd seasonal shot and first H1N1 on the same day and had ZERO side effects! Kudos to you from this public health Mommy!!!

Apparenly I am going to be the first on the nay side. This family is seemingly in good health, the kids, although 10 thru 7 and considered "vaccinatable", have not had major health problems in the past, and I don't anticipate any problems. The thing that got me was when the COD let the comment out that "had the strain of H1N1 been identified earlier, it's antibodies would have been included in the annual flu shot." That sounds pretty low key to me and not enough for me to make the effort to fight the crowds and get us vaccinated.
Then again, I didn't sterilize bottles, picked up pacifiers off the floor and wiped them on the pants I had been wearing (for any given number of days in a row), and am not afraid to let the kids get dirty during the summer. So I may not be a good voice of reason on this one...

we have never ever gotten flu shots. besides the fact that my kids were terrified, i just didn't see what the big deal was or want to make the effort (ooo, bad mama!) but the school system here offered it for all kids, so we jumped on that band wagon and had our kiddos get it. just didn't want to be kicking myself later!

Baby Wyatt got the shot and Rhett and I both snorted the mist. It wasn't so bad. Now we'll just have to hope they will get more doses before the boys need the second round. I love reading what other mothers are doing about this issue. Thanks!

We did too...but because Isabelle is so young she needs the booster shot and for some reason, that is the one I'm freaking out about. I blame it on the fact that I just saw video about the cheerleader on YouTube. Stupid Internet.

Love the trampy Miss Piggy shot! Glad you were able to get the vaccine. We still haven't. Hope to soon if they still have it.

The public schools are offering it free here, so I signed the paper saying my son could get the shot. The thing is, they have no idea when they will be getting the vaccine.

I hope your babies feel better soon!

Hill, I totally missed the word "shot" and saw "our kids got the swine flu.." Thanks for letting me know!

The only thing available in our area was the swine flu mist, which consists of TWO doses, a month apart. So, yes, we got the first mist, now will be heading back, right before Christmas to get the second one. My husband has a job where patient care is involved, so we thought maybe it would be a good idea. Funny thing is, I am not considered a "risk" group, so I am the only one in my family that did not receive the vaccination. What do you think will happen if Mommy gets sick? Now who's not high risk?

yes honey...my pediatrician used to call my son "scoop" because he would scoop everything up at daycare and bring it home...we stayed sick for the first 3 years of his life...also due to my daughter having had cancer she was in a high risk group...so that was a no brainer as well...hope the kids stay well...you and hubs too

Our kids have both been vaccinated. I hemmed and hawed about whether or not to do it, but in the end I decided it was the right thing for me.

None of our family has been vaccinated. Emma is 19- months and has never had even the flu shot. The hubs and I usually get the regular flu, but we won't this year. Nor will we be getting the Swine Flu vax. I totally support it being a choice. I'm thankful for that actually! And in regards to our family, we came to the conclusion that it was best we not get it. There's tons of info out there...good, bad, reputable, non-reputable, and then really ugly. What sealed the deal for us was that it's just too new. It wasn't tested long enough for our liking and it hasn't been available long enough to see what the long term effects may or may not be. And we went with facts...CDC, FDA, Drug insert facts, so we could try and make some sort of informed decision. It's a tough call to make, that's for sure. No matter what side of the fence you're on.

No vaccines here. No commentary either...but missed visiting yesterday and couldn't resist leaving a comment to this...you are so funny.

It sounds like we had the same thoughts about it... I tossed and turned, and asked everyone I knew. In the end, I decided to get it for the boys after hearing one too many stories about the swine flu. I decided that if they get sick from the shot, at least we would know what it was. If they didn't get the shot and got sick, I would have gone crazy wondering if they had "it."

4 days later and the boys are fine! Hopefully they don't catch some other weird strain...

We bit the bullet (err, pig) too and got the shot. Let's hope it keeps the swine at bay!

I also noticed that she had gotten trampier.
