Who's Your Daddy?

Since we decided to hang out in Florida until somebody around here launches a space shuttle, we have gotten to spend 24/ 7 with Ollie and Henry. It is wonderful! We love it and have a great time on this impromptu vacation.

But we have noticed something.
Jason calls me "Hill" {as most people do; go ahead- it's fine}. I call Jason "Jas" {because I'm a natural shorten-er}.
Ollie has picked up on this. Today he said, "Hill, could I please have some ice cream" and "Hill, WHEN IS THE SPACE SHUTTLE LAUNCH?" {I might have heard that last one 482 times. Maybe.}

I really, REALLY don't want to be one of those parents who is okay with their children calling them by their first name. Much less one who allows their kids to call them by their nickname. It all just seems so hippie-ish.
I'm pretty much a stickler for Mommy and Daddy.
If you must shorten {it's in their blood}, then Mom and Dad- which sounds too grown up.

I'm even a stickler for ma'am and sir.
"Yes ma'am, Hill" just doesn't sound right.

But here's my dilemma. As much as I don't want to be called "Hill" by my children, I ALSO don't want to be the grown woman who calls her husband, "Daddy".
There's just a certain eeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwww factor there.

Anyone else?
Those of you who have kids who can talk, have you gone there?
Any solutions?

I think I might have to do that {and I guess I do it a little bit now} in order for my kids to call Jason "Daddy" and vice versa. Oh my. I'm turning into a Duggar. I think there just needs to be a certain boundary.
But now that I think about it, I think my parents called each other Mom and Dad. Oh my. One more step towards this.

I don't know what I'm going to do. Maybe wash MY mouth with hot sauce when I call my husband "Daddy". Something's gotta give.
In the mean time, we are just correcting as we go and laughing secretly at with Ollie. It's not the first time.

Here are some pics from our time hanging out at the beach. Then the pool. Then the beach. That's pretty much our routine. Yesterday we did go to the Brevard Zoo and it was awesome! We got to pet a giraffe! And the kids knew most of the animals from watching Diego. I told you there's nothing that bad with TV! They actually knew what a Tapir was!
Unfortunately, I completely forgot my camera for that complete photo op. UGH. Hate it when that happens! It was as hot as Africa, though, so we were sweating like banchees.

Oh, wait! I did find this picture from my phone. Helllllo there, Giraffe!
As of right now, we are set for a shuttle launch on Wednesday morning at 5:30 AM- which means we have to be on site at 12:30 AM. Oh yes. In the AM. And then we are going to drive back North to reality.
Until then, don't forget to click down here and register for a $50 gift certificate to Darby's adorable Bug Boutique! Can't wait to pick a winner tomorrow!

I am one of those people. I call Darren 'Dad' most of the time actually. I have even caught myself calling him that when Nathaniel is not even around. Several of my friends think I am crazy and it sounds odd but I guess its just habit for me.

That is awesome (do you say that like a cheer when you read that? I DO!!) ya'll are staying and getting to spend quality time with the kids. Tom and I called each other by our names in front of the kids when we are talking to each other. But when talking to the kids about each other we will say mommy or daddy. Lucius never calls me Sabrina, but has called Tom before. We just correct him. I decided that he will go through that phase too quickly for us to even notice it. Good luck with your decision.

Yep, we're one of those families that call one another Mommy and Daddy, just for the kids sake. I luckily haven't slipped into that habit when the kids aren't around!! Looks like you are having fun in Cocoa Beach!! We loved it down there and we are also BIG fans of the Brevard Zoo! Never seen a better giraffe exhibit. Have fun and good luck for launch tomorrow!!

My kids never called us by our first names and my husband and I never referred to each other as mama and daddy, either (that's just weird to me).

I think the gentle correction is best; I've also heard of parents who explain that they (the kids) are the only ones lucky enough to call you (the parents) mama and daddy.

One reason why it's good to stop this early, as you are doing, is that where I live (and I'm sure other places), teens start calling parents by first names as a way of showing lack of respect and it sends my husband and me over the edge. One teen referred to his dad by his first name when talking to my husband and I'm guessing he won't do it again. :)

L.O.V.E. the giraffe picture! That would be precious framed in black! :)
You are making me laugh with the last post: random locals!!! LOL
Have fun Weds. a.m.
Don't worry, the first name won't stick. My boys all did that a time or two or actually more. It always made me laugh. David, actually was calling me Hon for awhile.
You are too funny! Have fun!

How fun Hill!! Ha! I love it! Yep, I'm one of those who calls Adam "Daddy" even when Anderson is asleep or not around. I know, I know! I just think that this impromptu vacation is super cool! Glad ya'll are having fun!

You are so funny! I call Channing 'Daddy' around the kids. It's a habit, I guess.
He calls me 'Mommy' or 'honey', and sometimes Asher calls me 'honey' because of that. :)
LOVE the pics! Too cute! Glad y'all are enjoying your trip!
Thanks for reminding me to enter the giveaway. Sadly, I waited too long. :( Bummer! Good luck to everyone else!!!

Ok, you absolutely cannot under any circumstance call your Jason "Daddy". i have friends who do that and they even do it when they are on an adult-only vacation with friends. Very disturbing. Just remind them of who you are to them. You call Jason by his name b/c he is not your daddy but he is theirs. They may not get it right now but every time it happens you tell them that and they will get it. I promise. I am not great at consistency but this is an area I don't budge on. It comes down to a matter of the respect they give you is the respect they will give other adults. Sorry so much info.!!! Have fun at the beach

I occasionally refer to my husband as "Papa," but usually only when I'm asking/telling him something on behalf of my children...as in, "guess what Papa? We used our best manners today!" Maybe that's weird.

I don't get out much.

Not that we're out of this stage, but I think it will be just that, a stage. It happens every once in a while, but I wouldn't make a big deal out of it.

Your Duggar comment made me LAUGH!

Oh my goodness- this is the most awesome idea for your spacecamp beau! What a fun trip!! And beach time to boot! And yes, I call Marc Daddy and he calls me Mommy for this exact reason...I was tired of being called "Donna" by my toddler.
