Lord have Mercy

On Sunday nights, I help lead crafts at choir for Ollie.
Since when have there been crafts at choir, you ask?

Since we have to entertain 15- 20 wired 4-6 year olds for an hour. And since they don't quite care about singing for an hour without Dora, Thomas or the Wonder Pets leading them.
So we bring out our friend, the craft.

We've done some fun little activities lately. A while back we made this flower with leftover Valentine's Day hearts and leftover Halloween suckers. Last week we colored crosses on regular printing paper, then dabbed them with vegetable oil to "supposedly" make them like vellum- or see through like stained glass {no link because it really didn't work; I wouldn't recommend it.}. Tonight we made shamrock prints with potatoes and paint. {Can you tell I love Family Fun magazine? Their stuff really works.}

I always feel a need to tie it all in to something church related.
Flowers: Spring will be coming soon and God made all the seasons.
Cross: To hang it in your house to remember to think about Jesus during Lent.
Shamrocks: St. Patrick explained Christianity and the Holy Trinity to the people of Ireland using the 3 leaves of a Shamrock.
Something with a stick and cotton balls: God made everything in the earth- including that thing you just created.

See? Anything can be tied in.

But a while back, Ollie came home from another class at church with this craft:
Mohawk Jesus 2

Any ideas what it could be?

We have no clue, but it has provided a lot of conversation and entertainment in our home.
This came home past Christmas {Baby Jesus's prime time} and no where near summer {which might give some clarity to the shell}.
We don't know why Baby Jesus has a mohawk or a felt blanket {must get itchy- unlike my snuggie}.
Or why someone put Mohawk Baby Jesus in a shell {Nobody puts Baby in a corner shell!}.

What's your favorite piece of "art" you've seen lately?

I am laughing so hard. Really, a mowhawk on baby Jesus?! What denomination are you? Just kidding:)

I love your blog!

When I saw your title in my head I said, "Christ have mercy". Remember your old mass days? :) How sweet of you to handle crafts- now look at my shocked face for you being in charge of something- you are truly a gifted leader. As for the baby shell Jesus- only thing I can think of is that a shell is the symbol for baptism...but where that fits in with Christmas and mohawks...I'm at a loss. :)

That's an umm interesting craft there. My first thought is baby Moses in a basket but I don't know for sure. I didn't think Moses had a mohawk, LOL.

My favorite art I've seen lately is the "E" egg exercise that "MLB" actually colored like a 5 year old & not like a spaz; even his teacher praised it highly! And the "flowers" he picked for me (it is now adorable weed season.)

As for the shell, I bet the teacher just had a bunch of those from the beach or from the clearance section & thought they'd be WAY easier than making mangers out of glue & popcicle sticks. The lesson: "God will use the gifts you have to do the most good if you only let him!"

Okay, I was going to say what Rachel said...are you sure it's Baby Jesus??? Might be Moses in a basket. I know that Genna thinks that any baby that is talked about in Sunday School is baby Jesus.

I'm gonna toss my vote in for Moses as well. Moses--Jesus, could sound the same coming from a small child talking with snacks in their mouth.

And THANK YOU THANK YOU for doing the crafts with those wired kids (mine being one of them)!!! :-)

My personal fav from Bible school comes from a lesson, not a craft. My mom spread out a blanket, made all the wound up 5 and 6 year olds walk around the edge of the blanket for 1 minute, then threw oyster crackers at us and told us it was manna. We repeated it for 10 minutes and finished with watered down grape koolaid. Seriously. I thought it was a horrible way to teach about God's bounty till I had kids of my own. Now, I totally get it. Because sometimes, God's kids make Him so nuts that He chucks down blessing and says "QUIT WHINING ALREADY!"

I know that baby! I have him riding a carrot. See www.cakewrecks.com. I got my mohawk baby carrot jockey from Cake Wrecks Jen herself. How it applies to Baby Jesus wrapped in felt in a seashell, I have no idea.

Okay, so we obviously have that same crazy looking baby in the shell. G calls him baby Moses, so I'm not sure if it's Jesus or Moses. We did keep our popsicle stick/pipe cleaner/cotton ball creation for a while, but I finally just tossed it. I know G gets really excited about the crafts, and frankly he'd rather do crafts than sing most nights (I'm guessing he's not in the minority on that one), so I thank you from the bottom of my heart for doing crafts with them! Y'all are pretty doggone creative if you ask me.

I'm stumped. Maybe Jesus is like a pearl--most precious--like a pearl? Maybe mohawk babies were on clearance at big lots and with the economy and all...so funny! Can I email you sometime and talk about blogging? Or is that too weird?

Don't you remember the part about wrapping Jesus in swaddling clothes then shaving his head before they headed off to the beach??

That's hilarious.

I'm always so embarassed for my 3 year olds that I teach on Sundays because all we do is color. Then my kids come running down the hall with, well, things like baby Jesus wrapped in a seashell. Some weeks we get all kinds of crazy and use markers instead of crayons, so I guess I'm not too much of a loser bible school teacher. ?? Yeah, I am.
