An Ode to Girl Scout Cookies

There are many dull things about winter:
The snow, the cold and the dark.
But we will gladly trudge through it,
Knowing the cookies will soon be a part.

The moms pass around sheets at meetings,
The same ones since I was a scout.
They have all those colored columns
That make your tummy flitter about.

Is it Thin Mints that are your choice?
Or Samoas that make your taste buds dance?
Or are you the only one out there
Who gives those Lemon Cremes a chance?

Then finally the day has arrived
When the cookies show up at your door!
The joy- it is overwhelming
As you rip into the package for more.

Then sadly, you realize that something
Hasn’t changed in 92 years.
There are only 15 Tagalongs
And soon they all disappear.

What happened to my chocolate-y goodness?
Why did you vanish from me?
I realize that small little box
Is only an appetizer, you see.

Some freeze the cookies for later
Like squirrels preparing for winter.
But we never seem to have extra
Always finishing them on a binger.

So we’ll patiently wait for next year
For the cookies to return once again.
Because soon those cute little scouts will be knocking
And we'll gladly be ordering by tens.

I always say to the solicitors knocking on my door that unless they are selling Girl Scout Cookies, I'm not interested!! :)

I LOVE Tagalongs and I bought two boxes the first day they were selling them in front of Publix. I asked the girl for one box of Tagalongs and she told me I could get two boxes for $7......So I got two boxes. Her mom said that I was too easy!! :) And no we don't have any cookies left!

We actually didnt order any this year but I did dig way down into the depths of the freezer and found 2 boxes of Thin Mints from last year! Whoo hoo!!!! So far we are only 1/2 way through the first package but I guarantee that by next week they will all be gone. Off to find a booth somewhere!

Thin Mints are my FAVORITE. The rest of my family likes the other stuff...does that really matter? lol Anyhow this year we decided to not buy any because we are changing the foods we eat...so sad...no more wheat. And this mama is going on a diet.

Thin Mints!
Do we have any left? Do pigs fly? ;-)

My favorite is Samoa's and Thin Mints. And as the troop leader and cookie mom for our little group, I have way too many cookies left in my garage. We have our final booth sale on Saturday and I'm staying until I sell them all!!!

Samoas...they are crack.

Samoas and (COLD) Thin Mints please! I still have ALL mine because my friends little girl selling them has not delivered to me yet. Getting them Sunday at a birthday party. Yippee!

Jessie Weaver said...

I haven't ordered any in 3 or 4 years. Because, as above commenter noted, they are crack. A serving size is two cookies. Can you REALLY eat just two Samoas?

Yes! Yes! Yes!

My favorite are the Tagalongs (Hubby, too), the kids all love Thin Mints. They each get their own box.

I have an ENTIRE CASE of Thin Mints and SIX BOXES of Tagalongs left! Yes, you read that correctly, EIGHTEEN BOXES! They are laid out flat on the bottom of the chest freezer, completely covered with a sheet of white plastic camouflage and a pile of fish sticks, frozen veggies and packaged ground beef.

Shhh.h.h.h.h! My family does not know about this stash. I intend to dole the thin mints out later, say , mid-summer, and be elevated to "Amazing Mom" status in my teenagers' eyes!

I'll share the Tagalongs with Hubby, and he can thank me in 'ahem' more creative ways! ;)

THIN MINTS! And, they are long gone! I look forward to them every year!

All of them, all of them, all of them! (Although those "Cafe" cookies they tried a few years ago weren't quite to par.) Yes, Samoas ARE crack, but so are the Tagalongs & Do-SI-DOs. My personal fav is Trefoils (Thin-mints as a kid.) As a kid, back in Middle Georgia Council, the cookies were called what they were: Peanut-butter Patties, Peanut-butter Sandwiches, Shortbread. It took me a while to get used to the "names."

And, no. Cookies have a half life of Plutonium around here. Unlike apples.

I LOVE the thin Mints and the Peanut butter ones. I remember in another post you said you were nervous about having a girl. Well, she could be a girl scout which would give you an excuse to buy way too many boxes of cookies! :)

Girl, I am picking up my thin mints and tagalongs today =)

Thin Mints are my fave. Sadly, there are none in our freezer. We've missed the cookie sale the last few years. But not this year!

It's all about the Tagalong, my friend.

And, if I can ever remember to make it to the post office, I have a care package heading your way...unfortunately, there are no cookies inside.

Um, I always get at least 4 boxes; 1 each of samoas, thin mints, do-si-dos, and tagalongs. Trefoils sometimes make it into the order. I currently have cookies in the freezer; some still left in every box.
Am I crazy for still having cookies in opened boxes? Perhaps. But that's what that pesky "B" word does to a chocolate fiend!!

My favs are the Samoas, Jim's are frozen Thin Mints. We split the Tagalongs.

I just received my 6 boxes today, so I have ALL my cookies left. (But not for long, I'm sure.)

I like the Lemon Cremes. :) But I'd have to say Samoas or Thin Mints are at the top of my list.

We currently have 4 1/2 boxes left in the cabinet, but I did have to let Brandon take a whole box to work this morning. Not without a small fight, of course.

Sorry, Charlie. I'm just not a Girl Scout cookie fan.

I KNOW! I'm CRAZY! WEIRD! Sad...?

Nope, I figure it's one less thing I could potentially/probably pig out on. And with Pop Tarts and nachos in the mix, that's a good thing.

I like the peanut butter ones.....a lot. the end.

Whatever the ones with peanut butter in the middle and chocolate on the outside are . . . those make me crazy. I'm laughing about the commenter who called them crack--so true!

My husband ordered 4 boxes at work, and I ordered 4 boxes from a neighbor and, yes, all 8 boxes are completely gone. I think . . . I'll be back . . . Gotta go check the pantry . . .

Carrie said...

Tagalongs all the way! Although I do buy a box of Thin Mints because there are more cookies in the box, and I feel like I'm getting more for my $3.50(!!!).

And I have "special" way to eat those beloved Tagalongs. I have to eat the chocolate off the sides, then scrape the peanut butter and chocolate off with my teeth before biting into the cookie. It just tastes better this way!

My favorite this year is the peanut butter sandwich. We still have 6 boxes left. I am the leader of our troop so we always have lots left....

Mine are Caramel Delights {Samoas} and they are gone. I limited myself to one box of those and one box of the Tagalongs for Dave.

I *may* have a girl scout cookie problem... there should be meetings.

We love the tagalongs. Tom bought six boxes and they are all gone. I like to put them in fridge before eating. He also got Samoas and Lemon Cremes just to mix things up. Of course those are still there.

Samoas are my absolute favorite. Something about that chocolate, caramel, coconut, and cookie texture and yumminess just makes me oh so happy! Are there any left? Are you kidding? I tried to be good, but I ate them all myself. But I did order only one box.

We downed a box of Somoas in about 20 minutes- my kids are now hooked. :)
