Stream

Here's what's really going on behind the scenes in my world {in the writing style of stream of consciousness because I can't muster much else}:

* Henry is trying to potty train himself.
March 10.2 011
This might seem like a great thing to most of you, but I have a one piece outfit for him to wear for Easter, so we will be waiting until the weekend after to do the potty training boot camp. I can't tell you how many times I've told him, "You can't use the potty until you're a big boy. You're not a big boy, yet." That's nice and encouraging, isn't it?
June Clever's got nothing on me.

* Today is St. Patrick's Day and I still somehow feel like I HAVE to wear green. Maybe it's that my mom was an elementary teacher {who probably taught some of you} and she decorated our house, her classroom and our wardrobes per seasonal color. Please tell me some of you have moms that were teachers, too, and did this.

Here's the break down, in case you missed out on this: Jan- white/ blue, Feb- red/ pink, March- green, April- pink/ yellow, May- red, June- purple/ pink, July- red/ white/ navy blue, Aug- orange, Sept- brown/ blue, Oct- orange/ black, Nov- orange/ gold, Dec- red/ green.

Now that the DaVinci Color Wheel Code has been unlocked, I fully expect you to start dressing appropriately.

Oh, and the only green maternity shirt I have {for 40 degree weather} looks like St. Patrick's personal tent maker- St. Omar- weaved it for me. And that's how I'm rolling today because my mama raised me on that dang color wheel.

* Ollie is transitioning between napping in the afternoon and not napping. March 10.2 062
I know; he's 4 1/2 years old. And that's how I like it. A nap is a mommy's best friend. He's been taking short naps or napping every other day and I didn't realize how much I needed that time to myself in the afternoon. He'll come down to my office and play games on MY computer which doesn't allow me to email, for the love of Peter St. Patrick! So, I'm pretty behind on emails, blog reading, general internet surfing- you know- the important stuff. I think I'm going to set up some sort of desk for him down there. Any suggestions for what he can do during that time when his brother is still napping?

I've tried quiet time in his room, but he falls asleep and would sleep all day- which is great; he is definitley my child- but then he's up until 10:00 pm. And that's later than I'm up sometimes, so something's not right about that.

* Baby girl's room is not even CAH-loooose to being started. Baby Girl Dunham 003
I don't even quite know what I'm looking for, yet. And apparently everyone else is flipping out about this but me. I guess the flipping out comes in since we're moving the boys to bunk beds, painting Henry's room and then starting over in there. But if I recall, new babies can stay in a pack and play for a while, right? RIGHT?
Or a sock drawer or something?
Poor, poor third child.

In other baby news, I got a nice box full of clothing from a sweet blog reader and friend, Stacy! She has 3 cutie pie little girls and sent the sweetest outfits from her latest addition- who is only 10 weeks old! And she included in her sweet note that one was "the outfit she wore home from the hospital". I'm sending that back to you framed or something, Stacy. We can't wear that! What if she had irreparable spit up or something on it? Oh my. I couldn't handle it. But the rest of the adorable clothes- we'll wear those for sure! Thank you!

* In other news, I have a huge, life- altering {maybe I exaggerate... maybe} project going on behind the scenes that I'm not quite ready to talk about, yet. But it is taking up loads of time and mental energy. And you will be the first to know about it as soon as the word is out!

Alrighty- still eating bran muffins {should have food colored them green!} and they're ready!
Happy St. Patty's Day!

So glad to know of your 'plan' for potty training. I've been trying to figure out how, when, where...ahh! I'm going to look at the website you linked and go from there. Thanks for the tip! PS-What kind of one-piece is H wearing for Easter? I was hoping Jacob wasn't too big for a one-piece. But if you are doing it, I'm sooo doing it too. Peer pressure.... ;-)

Just look at that beautiful profile! Sweet nose. The Lord will give you peace re decorating...the right idea at the right time will just happen. I'm going to try your PT link out. My girls were on the right road and they reverted when I lost the baby...sigh...they keep telling me the baby doesn't need diapers anymore so they get to use them. arrrrggghhhh

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!

My mom was a teacher, too! She has a Christmas sweater collection that could rival anyone's. And don't even get me started on the lapel pins. OH! The lapel pins.

Is it wrong, I'm hoping Finnegan naps until he's 12? I need that hour or two of quiet in the afternoon and sometimes nap myself. I have friends that have 1 & 2 year olds that don't nap anymore and I can't fathom it!

PS. My mother-in-law is a 1st grade teacher... around here it's not so much the colors as the "holiday" themed attire. Dear Lord, I about choked when I opened a Christmas sweater from her one year. Dave wholeheartedly embraced the idea of it going directly into the box to Goodwill, lest I turn into his mother.

Our baby girl's room is the junk room and I have tried to start organizing but I have now made the room waaaay worse! It's so overwhelming! I just need to get in there and do it. There are so many bedding options to choose from too! Ahhh!

not only am i wearing green today, i have sprinkled my office with sparkly green shamrock stickers. i just couldn't help myself. i am not sure i have the right colors for april though... so i might be headed to kohls :)

I too love your rambling posts. You sound like me when I'm at my wits end.
I think you should set up ollie his own little desk area. All our kids have their own laptops (pieced together by their technilogically advance father) and it is wonderful.

They're right: don't worry about the little girl's room. It will all come together when it's time. (Like I'm one to offer advice; our little girl's room still hasn't happened, and she 14 months & counting....)

Girl, you totally crack me up!

I was so glad to have someone who can use the clothes. My husband, I believe, was even happier. Leaving baby clothes around my house is a dangerous thing...I get all of these crazy I-think-I-can-handle-another-one thoughts in my head and my husband starts hyperventilating and before I know it I'm sniffing other people's babies and checking my ovulation calendar "just for fun."

Mercy. That was probably TMI.

My son slept in a pack and play for the first 4 months of his life. No harm in doing that.

Now, I'm off to check out potty training boot camp, thinking it's time for some training around here.

You had me laughing out loud at that color wheel!! Too funny! I am a non-practicing teacher, but I never really got into dressing like the holidays. It always made me feel like I dropped a few IQ points.

BTW, I meant that in a kind, light hearted way... not literal at all.

Oh, friend. I am with you on the potty training issue. You know I tried and then decided *I* wasn't ready yet. Well, after that, I looked at the calendar and it just didn't make sense to start for REALZ until after Easter (thanks to lots of busy weekends, travel and the daycare change). But since our daycare is so accommodating and helpful in the potty training arena, Little Miss A keeps asking to sit on the potty at home! I'm pretty much as encouraging as you when that happens.

Also. My mother is a teacher and she decorates the TAR out of her house. Appropriately colored, of course.

Our baby does not get a room to be decorated. He will sleep in his carseat or pack n' play in our walk-in closet until he is big enough to share a room with his brothers. That's what happens when six kids live in a 3 bedroom house. Your baby girl won't know if her room was ready the day she came home, so don't worry about it.

Right back at you - Happy St, Patty's day!

(PS - Pack n' play is totally acceptable! Works for the Duggars, right? ;)

Carrie said...

Oh Lori just sealed the deal right there with the Duggar comment. Poor baby girl will be in a pack n play until she can climb out herself. Just kidding, Hillary!

And the DaVinci color wheel - hilarious!

Potty training boot camp, that sounds awesome!!! I'm going to have to check that out!

grace said...

eh! we're so lazy we co-sleep!--okay, it's not because we're lazy...but it does solve room decoration issues! ha ha.

also, we're having our third baby too! that is neat.

I also grew up with that color wheel.

Hey Other Mama! Long time, no check in right?!!! Wow! I've learned a lot this morning as I "tried" to catch up with you a bit! Yay for the third baby and even bigger Yay for a little girl! You'll be so amazed at how easily that little third one just slips right in. Most likely be the easiest one you've had thus far. I can't figure that one out.....maybe we just improved ourselves by the time that third one arrived into our chaotic but oh so blessed little world. Can't wait to follow the journey of your sweet family as you guys make that transition as well. Congrats to all of you and a little warning to those future big brothers: little sisters are catty little things, cute and sweet and the best hair-pullers in the South. Do not be fooled by a sweet princess wearing a smocked bishop dress and a big bow.

I just got done skimming through some more of your blog... and I had to let you know you just have me in stitches. I really love your wit and spunk!!! :) You, I must admit, are my favorite new bloggy friend :) Yay!

And since we both have an underlying obsession with Chuck and Zachary Levi, I think we were just destined to be buds!
