For the love of Pumpkins

There is no reason at all we should have been at the Pumpkin Patch on Saturday.

It was 39 degrees {Farenheit, my friends}, windy and drizzling. And I didn't even have my snuggie. It was about as much fun as someone poking you on Facebook, but we managed to make a good time of it.

The kids rode trikes, drove PRE-tend* tractors, swung on horse tire swings, got lost in the hay maze and played in the corn crib.
{*said like Jethro since we were on the farm}
Ollie held a bunny rabbit {no fur or feet were lost in the making of this picture}.
Bunny love
Then we went on a hay ride to pick our pumpkins.
Our rule is you have to be able to carry the pumpkin you pick.
And this one wasn't making the cut:
This one, please
But Henry found this little guy and was happy.
A little pumpkin for a little punkin
And there was some serious discussion going on here, apparently about whether or not this one had the qualifications to make it home with us.
The boys
Have I mentioned my sweet hubs is scruffy again? He goes through this bearded phase about once a year.
No worries. He hasn't robbed anyone... yet.

Family shot on the hayride back to the car.
I think Henry's eyes and lips were frozen. And Ollie was wearing my female scarf/ glove accessories; together- we matched. None of these things really matter when it's that cold, people. {Yes, it's true. We only know one pose.}

While checking out, we saw these beauties.
Big Punkins
I have no idea how much they cost. But I imagine the new owner could have possibly bought a new pair of jeans that would have been a tad warmer for the price of 2 enormous pumpkins.
But that's neither here or there because the gigantic pumpkin cool factor is too much for common sense. Everyone was drawn to them.
I will take 2 to go, please
Too bad Henry couldn't pick it up or else we would have been driving tours at the pumpkin patch to pay for it!
And the neighborhood kids would have flocked to our house to see The Great Pumpkin. Wouldn't that thing be a booger to carve? I bet the Auburn School of Architecture would have a field day with this one!

Have you been to your local pumpkin patch this fall? What's your favorite part of the trip?

We went out to our (same) Pumpkin Patch a few weeks ago but it was some sort of Field Trip Day and it was INSANE so we didn't bother going out to the patch itself and I just let the kids pick out little pumpkins to take home. Loads of fun and something we do every year...I'm always surprised that there are others in the area that have never been!

How fun, and what a great family picture! We were supposed to go this weekend but our sickness kept us away. However, my favorite part is getting hot pumpkin doughnuts and warm apple cider with the family. We love sitting at a table overlooking the spectacle while listening to live music. One of my favorite events of the entire year! :) Have a great week!

When we lived in B'ham, we use to go out to a real pumpkin patch. It was out on a big farm and it was so much fun.

We took the boys to a "pumpkin patch" Saturday, but it was at a church and the "hay ride" was through the parking lot. Not quite the same, but it was still fun!

I'm so jealous of your trip to the pumpkin patch! Here in Tucson, we can't buy pumpkins until right before Halloween, because they rot outside and smell funny inside. It was 99 here this weekend! And that, my friend, is just not pumpkin patch weather.

I'll try to take the kids next weekend... MAYBE we'll have to wear jeans in the 85 degree weather they forecasted!!

Hillary, we went yesterday and it was 76 degrees, quite disgusting! I love the pictures of you guys at the Pumpkin patch, so fun!

Yowza, that’s cold! You are a brave, pumpkin-pickin’ family! And cute, too – I like that picture. Also, I should tell you that I feel your pain about the once-a-year scruffiness. Mark is on his way to a full beard. Annoying. Then again, maybe it doesn’t annoy you. So perhaps I should talk about this on my own blog, huh?

So back to your topic – we have not gone to a pumpkin patch yet. I’m hoping next Saturday, though!

This looks like so much fun!

I have never taken my girls to the pumpkin patch. I totally took the easy way out this year and bought them at Publix. And, I bought paint and we painted them instead of carving. Pitiful, I know. LOL

Your boys are adorable!

When kiddos were younger and we lived in the city, we took an hour drive to a pumpkin patch similar to this one. Today...kiddos not so little and pumpkin patch...not so much! (ya...now that we are in the country where the patch is a stone's throw away!). BUT....to this day we still carve pumpkins. Not because I insist but because the not so little kiddos ask for it and look forward to it! Just yesterday #4 (14 y/o) passed the pumpkins at walmart (our version of the pumpkin patch!)and it triggered an excited conversation with his brother (17 y/o) about how they are going to carve their pumpkins and WHEN are we going to do it. (21 y/o wants to know too cause he might come home that weekend!)

So keep establishing your family traditions Hillary...You are making a difference for a lifetime of memories and joy!

We go to the Pumpkin Patch at Wal-Mart. We buy our cider in a jug, our carmel apples in the deli, our punkins from a cardboard box and everyone stays warm. :)
That mother of the year award should be here any day now....

oh hillary, this post made me laugh out loud numerous times while reading it! i think what really got me was that you said henry's eyes and lips were frozen and it made me think of christmas vacation when they are cutting down the christmas tree!! too funny! i love going to the pumpkin patch and we are supposed to go this afternoon...so look for our post soon, although i am sure it won't be near as funny as yours! i know you were talking about how cold it was and that is funny b/c matt won't go unless it is under 70 degrees b/c you are not supposed to do that stuff if it is hot outside! i think one year we went to cut down our christmas tree and it was like 75 degrees and we were all miserable! ha! oh and matt does the "scruff" thing about once a year too but it is usually on our vacation to colorado when he can look like a mountain man instead of a banker!

You and your adorable family are like a little patch of pumpkins all on your own! Thanks for sharing these pics!

Pumpkin patch is a highlight of fall in our family. Even though we now live in Texas and only know it's fall because it's no longer too HOT to go outside.

We went to the pumpkin patch last weekend. We like to support the Aggie Habitat for Humanity, so the whole extended family goes for photos and for dropping way too much money on pumpkins.

We carted the lot back to the in-laws house and the kids had a blast painting them. In fact, they had so much paint on them, the pumpkins still weren't dry by nightfall so we left them overnight.

Overnight, it rained.

So now the kids get to slop up I mean paint their pumpkins again. So much fun, so little time.

[very, very like!]

Our (first-time) trip last year spoiled the supermarket for me. CES will make their own patch in the park next week, & we'll all walk over for our "field trip" to paint & take. We'll even get to brown-bag & swing. But no tractors or bunnies, at least not planned.

Okay- props to your camera skills- you are really looking like a pro. I'm glad you addressed Henry's gloves, because I was going to question their gender specifications. :) Glad you got to a punkin patch- cross that off your fall to-do list. We've yet to make it. P.S. you look adorable in your ensemble.
