Halloween Costume Ideas

We have an adult party to attend this year and- true to form- I am waiting until the WEEK OF Halloween to get my act together.

Does anyone else torture themselves like this?

The party we're attending is the same one as last year, but this year there is a theme. And you know I love a theme!

It's a totally awesome and rad 80s theme!

So, I've been wracking my brain trying to figure out what in the world to be. We officially haven't come up with our final answer(, Regis), but here is a Top Ten list of costumes Jason and I are considering for Halloween:

1. Mr. and Mrs. Pacman
pac20
Seems easy enough, but I don't think we'd be able to sit all night with yellow sandwich board- type costumes. Any other ideas for that?

2. Smurfette and Papa Smurf
banner_smurfs
This was really ahead in the running until I saw some people online and there is really not a good way to look cool/ comfortable in blue face paint.

3. Breakfast Club Cast
The_Breakfast_Club
I really would love to finally live out my dreams and be Molly Ringwold, but I think we need 3-4 other people to help us with this one and might not be able to round up other procrastinators at the last minute.

4. Bob Ross and the Happy Tree
Well, we've done that one. But it was so much fun!

5. California Raisins
Ca_raisins
I was a raisin several times as a child with purple balloons and a black garbage bag. This is fine if you don't want to travel anywhere via seat belt and you don't plan on sitting down all night.
And it makes me want the Hardee's equivalent of a Happy Meal all night.

6. He- Man and She-Ra
He-ManShe-RaChristmas
I couldn't talk Jason into the fur loin cloth for the evening.

7. Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker
tammyfayebakker
This one might still be in the running if I could stand wearing running mascara all night.

8. Mork and Mindy
MorkMindy
Still working on this as another possibility. If only I could find a good poet shirt like the ones I had in 7th grade... And what in the world is on Mork's hands?

9. Angela and Tony from Who's the Boss
whosBOSS27
Where are my mom's twist-a-beads when I need them? Those were awesome.

10. Tom Selleck and a generic 80s girl in love with Tom Selleck
Tom Selleck
Because weren't we all? Jason still has his beard right now and I'd love the opportunity to get him to shave and go for a mustache. That would be smooth and rad. Oh yes it would.

Are you going to a dress up party?
Any ideas?

What would your pick be?
And what should I add to this list of contenders?

Thanks to my friend Oh Amanda for letting me play along with her Top Ten Tuesdays. Check out the other Top Tens today- or, better yet- make one for yourself and link to her site!

Bring on those costume ideas, please.
I've tapped all my potential and I'm on my way to buy hairspray and shop at the Goodwill for ANY of these.

Hubby and I are having an adult halloween party this year, Friday night in fact. We are going to be Al and Peggy Bundy. You could definitely do that short notice and that show started in the late 80's. Email me if you want details on the apparel. My vote would be for He-Man and She-Ra but my hubs wouldn't wear a fur loin cloth either!! LOL!! You could always do Zack & Kelly from Saved by the Bell!! That would be fantastic!!

I love the Breakfast Club idea, but yeah, you might need more peeps. How about Top Gun...Maverick & Charlie? Have fun whatever you decide! Can't wait for the party post.

Love the theme. Love the 80s. I think the'd all be good. My parents went as raisins one year, ask your in-laws about it. John, kids and I are running the Boo Run Fun Run Sat. a.m. dressed as Spaceghost, Wonder Woman, Batman and Dawn, the Pokemon Trainer. I'll try to send you a pic.

Oh I bet my mom still has her twist a beads somewhere! I remember they came from Leon's in Dothan! And she had a gold shell clasp- she was REALLY into seashells, they were everywhere in our house!

My husband, kids, and I dressed as Mrs. PacMan and her ghosts a few years ago -It was really easy, quick to put together, and a blast! We had an 80's themed party, and other guests came as Ghostbusters, the Miami Vice guys, Sammy Hagar and Alice Cooper, Princess Leia (Is that how you spell her name?), Peg Bundy... If you need pics let me know!

I'm totally thinking you could be Samantha in that pink bridesmaid dress and Jason could be Jake Ryan in his plaid shirt from Sixteen Candles ORRRR you could be Sissy and he could be Bud from Urban Cowboy!! Hope you guys have a fabulous party! :)

I guess you could go as the king and queen of pop: mj and madonna?
But I love your ideas much more! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Jim and Tammy Faye concept...and think you should go for it. I will sit on the edge of my seat until I see the pictures from that one!
Poor Tammy Faye. I mean, even then, didn't she know she was a freakshow?

We recently to an 80s party and I was Olivia Newton John in the Let's Get Physical video (yes, it's true :) Just find a neon leotard, headband and leg warmers. There were also LOTS of punk rock girls at this party because, sadly, all of that stuff is back in style. There is a store at Parkway Place that carries ALL of it, including the neon bangle bracelets. :)

p.s. Jason could go as Tom Cruise in Risky Business (with his tighty-whities! :) Lots of guys were pulling that one off at the party :)

So fun!! Can't wait to see what you decided!

I went to an 80s themed party last week as a wrap-up a work-related conference last week. Didn't realize before leaving that people would actually be wearing costumes. Threw together a costume at the last minute (as in that day) as a generic 80s girl. Scarily, majority of the costume was to be had at Wal-Mart. Only failed at finding jelly shoes, which we REALLY wanted to find.
Anyway, costumes represented at party:
all-girls KISS
Devo (although there were 6 of them)
Hart to Hart couple
Dee Snyder
A woman dressed in her ACTUAL prom dress from the 80s (and it still fit!)
It was so fun and crazy!

Well, since my black-eyed pea idea isn't going to fly here, how about
1988...Who framed Roger Rabbit ~ one of my favorites hands down and you can go as Jessica (the bomb shell) and Jason, well Jason can take one for the team and go as Roger (the rabbit).

but if I were to vote on your top ten list...I could so see you pulling off the Tammy Faye look :)

well, i think you need to go to 10 parties, or have costume changes throughout the night, b/c they are all great. and you must have been RICH growing up. my california raisin costume didn't have the balloons...just the trash bag, cheap sunglasses and a microphone made out of a toilet paper roll and tin foil.

You guys should go as Robert Palmer and one of those girls from his video "Addicted to Love". You could wear a black shirt dress, pull back your hair and have bright red lipstick on. Hubby would need a white suit and I think it was a thin black tie...maybe carry a guitar too? You know like the 80's video :)

Even the suggestions sound great! No matter what you choose, please post pictures.

I made a Generic Costume in 1986. I used electrical tape to make a bar code on a white sweatshirt & stick-on vinyl letters to spell "Generic Costume." Remember how there was "generic" everything everywhere? And one of you could go as a bar code scanner.

But if you do need the twist-a-beads, I know EXACTLY where mine are in the closet!

You are so funny! And your readers are too! Some of these ideas just crack me up, but are awesome!
My votes:
Jim and Tammy Faye
Zack and Kelly
"Addicted to Love" video (LOVE THIS!!)

My personal recommendation is Alex P. Keaton and sister, Mallory, from Family Ties. That would be an easy one to throw together.

I can't wait to see what ya'll choose! Have a great time!

HILARIOUS- I love the flashbacks- Jim and Tammy all the way.

I vote for Mr. and Mrs. Pacman. My sister, Sha, was a green M&M one year and I was thinking the material/shape would work. It was soft, moveable foamy material, so you could sit.
I'm going to be Marie Antoinette! My costume is bordering on obnoxious!

mork and mindy!!!! (all the way)

How about Princess Di and Prince Charles? You could carry a wrapped baby doll and do the scene where she and Prince Charles are coming out of the hospital after having Prince William.

Have fun! Lisa
