I have lost my ever-lovin' mind

I have never been what one would call "pensive". Sometimes I think about something for a while and stir over it/ pray about it, but most of the time I just go for it. Some might call this ambition.

People who know me might know think I'm just stupid.

Today, I was so proud of myself to get up and run a bit early this morning. I think I ran about 2 miles- and not like anyone was chasing me, either- pretty casually. So, I started to remember fondly my old running days and how much I loved that time in the mornings. I listen to praise music and commune with God and nature while trying to avoid dog poop. Good times.

So, while I was on my nostalgic bandwagon, I decided that I should run every morning. I used to do it, right? I just have to make myself. And what better way to make myself than to sign up for a race.

I just registered for the Cotton Row Run 10K on Memorial Day. Yes. In 2 weeks. I'm sure that's plenty of training time, right? Especially since I've never run 6.2 miles at one time before. That's right. I've NEVER done it. And people train for months. Nope, not me, though. I just jump right in there!

I hope nostalgia and caffeine carry me though. Or else I'm going to have to find a wild bear to chase me. I think the latter might be my best option...

Good for you! I think you're right - sometimes you just need to jump into things or else you'll get scared off. Let us know how it goes!

PS - LOVE the title of this post!

Girl, you can do it! I'm not sure if you've seen my post on doing a half marathon, but if I can do that, you can do it too!

I'd pay for the hiring of the wild bear just to see that! LOL. You're a hoot. Best of luck.

I have been thinking about doing the exact same thing! I was a runner in high school, but that was almost 20 years ago! I'm not brave enough for the 10k, I was thinking about the 5k. At midnight last night it seemed like such a good idea. In the cold light of day, I'm definitely having second thoughts! BTW, I'm friends with Sonia P & Candace S. Love your blog!

that's great! i've always wanted to do a marathon... or half-marathon... or 10K... or just a 5K.. or maybe just walk in a 1 mile fun run. seriously, i will eventually do a race, if i can stop getting pregnant:). i'm sure you'll do awesome, but i would love to see a bear chasing you.

6.2 miles?! Wow, the only way I'd be able to do that was if I was chasing a pork chop!!

Good luck and let us know how it goes! That's something to be really proud of!

Hboen85@aol.com ... that's my email address. I have no idea why Blogger is deciding to keep me hidden. It must have trust issues.

You go other Mama! I will take a page from Rick Burgess here, if you ever see me running, you better fall in line behind me because something is after me.

BTW, I still CANNOT get your button to post. My blog says every time it posts to the sidebar that the image has been deleted by photobucket. Whatever that means. I've tried dozens of times and can post other things, but not your button. What in the world?! LeAnne tried to help me, but no success.

Go big or go home. If anybody I know could pull this off- it's YOU- you are able to do more than humanly possible everyday so why should this race be any different? P.S. so glad you go to see Thomas again- I bet Ollie is old enough to remember it for a long time.

I think that is wonderful. I will be pulling for you here in D-town. I just started running myself and really enjoy it. Good Luck!!!

Hey Girl! This is a follow up to the comment you left on my blog!
Sonia & I go waaaay back. Are you ready to laugh? We were on teen board together at Castner Knott! I must find pictures and post them.
1. In re: to Kelly -I know, right!?! How awesome is that? I admit, I did leave a link to that post in the comment section on her Mother's Day post, but I never dreamed she would actually Leave A Comment! Ha!
2. Losing my daughter was the hardest thing I've ever dealt with. When my Mom died a year later, it didn't even compare. (sorry mom) 2 years & 5 months later I can talk & write about it without completely losing it, but I did cry when I wrote that post. Amy George has really inspired me to share some of my experiences with others to let them know they are not alone.
3. My husband was totally on board with me signing up for the cotton row until I told him it was 2 weeks from yesterday. Then he was in the floor laughing & crying hysterically! Uh, we may go to the beach instead. Or I may join him in Israel. Or I may just be hiding under a rock!
4. That's my first new car since I graduated from college! (Not including company cars - Ford Tauruses make me puke!)Considering I was driving an 11 year old Explorer hand-me-down from my Dad, I think it was time for a new car! I really loved my Explorer, though. I almost cried a tear when I traded in! Ha! My new car rocks, but it is Ginormous! And not only do I have a Saturn V tag, it's personalized: DINNER. We own Dinner by Design. But I'm not putting those stupid advertising magnets on this car, no way!
We should definitely get together sometime and meet in real life! Until then, how's the training going? I did 30 day Shred today...I won't be able to walk tomorrow!

I hear ya! I ran my first 5k at the beginning of March in Seaside and then ran a SECOND one in Birmingham (hills, hills, hills) at the end of March. 2 in one month is too much! But it was fun and I was glad I did it. You will feel a great sense of accomplishment once you finish. And as my dad said to me when I signed up for my first race, you don't have to run the whole time. Just imagine chasing a toddler down the street! Good luck!!

You go girl! It really doesn't matter if you can run a 10k with only 2 weeks of training time...it's whether or not you can walk it that is super important at this point. Otherwise plant a buddy at the half way point. ha Just kidding..you'll do great!

I signed up on a whim too! I am not even close to being in shape for this race but hopefully I'll make it without medical assistance. Maybe I'll see you there. Good luck!

I'm glad you had a great time visiting Thomas. I guess I need to move our Thomas picture out of the kitchen!

yes you are crazy but good for you. just this past weekend i thought to myself that i am tired of saying "i want to" do a lot of things, like run and sew etc. so i am proud of you for just doing it!

Awesome! You know, especially since you were a runner before, it's 95% mental anyway. Keep with a short training program and you'll finish it with flying colors. 2 weeks is going to be fine, especially if you can run 2 miles after not getting out there for a while. You GO GIRL!!!
